Hi to all.

My interest in women's issues encompasses many areas, especially in the psychology of women. Currently I'm trying to develop a dissertation proposal investigating grass-roots women's community activism (particularly around issues of nonviolence). My question for this proposal will center around motivation. What motivates and sustains women's community involvement.

Part of my motivation is to help fill the gaps in women's history- Social movements are often built by women but the historical credits are usually given to males in movements.

I'm also interested in how grass-roots women 'speak to power' and what benefits they accrue.

Any thoughts or help in getting this proposal focused would be deeply appreciated. thanks, kate

It might be interesting to focus on a group like the Kensington Welfare Rights. You might also call the Community Women's Education Project on Frankford Avenue to talk about this topic.

It sounds to me as though you need to find out what organizations are in the area and then zero in one.

I just had another thought. What organizations are connected Women's Way? That might also be a good starting point.
